The Faith & Freedom Coalition Announces Support for Senator Lankford’s School Choice Resolution

DULUTH, Ga. — The Faith & Freedom Coalition, in addition to twelve other conservative organizations, has announced support for Senator James Lankford’s (R-OK) new resolution affirming a parent’s right to choose where their child attends school.

“At the Faith & Freedom Coalition, we believe that there is no one better suited to make choices about a child’s education than a parent,” said Faith and Freedom Coalition Executive Director Timothy Head. “Recently, parental rights have been under attack and destructive ideas are being taught in many public schools. The pandemic has opened the door to countless instances of government overreach, and it’s time that our lawmakers push back.”

Lankford’s resolution is a response to recent statements comparing parents to domestic terrorists, COVID-19-related school closures and the prevalence of controversial ideology like Critical Race Theory in some public schools. Lankford, and the ten colleagues who joined him, believe that children deserve the opportunity to learn in an environment that best supports their individual needs. With many different educational environments available for children today, the resolution reinforces the idea that a parent should be able to place their children in the environment where the parent knows they will be most successful. 

“As Christians, we recognize that it is ultimately a parent’s responsibility to ‘train a child in the way he should go,’ as we read in Proverbs 22:6,” Head continued. “We’re encouraged to see that our legislators acknowledge this and are prioritizing school choice. There are so many options for education available today, and parents are the only people equipped to choose the best option for their unique children. Inevitably, children will absorb the ideas and values they are taught in schools, and parents should always have the final say in what ideas are presented to them.”
