Faith & Freedom Coalition Commends Mega Church in California for Hosting In-Person Worship Services

DULUTH, Ga. – The Faith & Freedom Coalition commends Pastor John MacArthur of Grace Community Church in Southern California for practicing the First Amendment right to freely worship. Due to COVID-19, the church initially did close in-person services and moved to live streaming; however, after careful consideration of the Biblical command to meet together, and recognizing that the danger posed by COVID-19 has proven lower than anticipated, MacArthur has reopened in-person services.

Approximately 3,000 people attended the first weekend of reopening and an estimated 6,000 the second. Despite threats of government crackdowns over defiance, MacArthur said he has no plans to stop in-person services.

“Grace Church is going to meet … and we’re going to continue to meet and we’re going to always meet because Jesus Christ is the head of the church. Jesus is Lord,” he said. “And government has a certain purview given by God, but it doesn’t cross over into the realm of the Kingdom of God, so we’re going to meet.”

“We at Faith & Freedom Coalition disapprove of Governor Gavin Newsom’s restrictions of in-person church gatherings,” said Timothy Head, executive director of the Faith & Freedom Coalition. “What people desperately need at this time is the comfort of the Lord and to be in fellowship with the Spirit and one another. Pastor John MacArthur is doing the right thing to open the doors of the Lord’s house and allow people to worship together once again.”
