DULUTH, Ga. – The Faith & Freedom Coalition celebrates the remarkable economic comeback revealed by the June jobs report. Business leaders created 4.8 million jobs over the past month, generating the biggest monthly increase on record and outpacing economists’ estimates by 1.7 million jobs. Unemployment fell from 13.3% to 11.1% — 1.4% more than what was predicted.
“Through this jobs report, Americans are telling us that they are chomping at the bit to return to normal,” said Timothy Head, executive director of the Faith & Freedom Coalition. “America has an incredible heritage of resilience, and the jobs report showcases our extraordinary ability to overcome adversity and support one another in times of crisis.”
Other highlights from the jobs report include major gains for Black and Hispanic workers. Black employment rose by 404,000, the second-largest recorded gain, and Hispanic unemployment dropped by 3.1 percentage points. American workers with a high school diploma but without a college degree also saw significant gains, as unemployment decreased by 3.2 percentage points. Industries vulnerable to COVID-19 have started to come back: The leisure and hospitality industry gained 2.1 million jobs and the retail industry gained 740,000 jobs.
