Statement by Ralph Reed on President Trump Signing the Laken Riley Act

Duluth, GA– The brutal and senseless murder of 22-year-old Laken Riley on the campus of the University of Georgia in 2024 by an illegal alien and gang member who had already been arrested and released twice for crimes committed in New York and Athens, Georgia has at last galvanized the nation to action.  It played no small role in highlighting the chaos and crime directly caused by the failed policies of the Biden Administration.

While Laken’s family is bereft and will feel Laken’s loss forever, her young life and tragic death has not been in vain, for it led to the passage of the bipartisan legislation that bears her name. President Trump promised her family and the American people he would sign this bill when it reached his desk, and he kept that promise in his second week in office.

Faith & Freedom Coalition applauds Representative Mike Collins of Georgia for his leadership on this issue, Speaker Johnson for making it the first legislative act of this Congress, and President Trump for this step towards securing the border and restoring the rule of law in our nation.
