IRS Caught Targeting Conservative Organizations

According to their website, the Mission Statement of the IRS Tax Exempt Organizations Division is: “To provide Exempt Organizations customers top quality service by helping them to understand and comply with applicable tax laws, and to protect the public interest by applying the tax law with integrity and fairness to all.” (emphasis added). In learning that the IRS has intentionally targeted conservative non-profit organizations since 2011 is in clear violation of both their self-proclaimed mission statement and the public’s trust. Lois Lerner, Director of the IRS Tax-Exemption Division, knowingly oversaw this clear violation and lacks the judgment to continue leading one of the most important divisions of the IRS. IRS Commissioner Steven Miller must immediately appoint a new director of the Tax Exempt Division, one of the most important divisions of the IRS, who is of utmost integrity, character, and impartiality. President Obama has stated that if the IRS is not operating in “a neutral and nonpartisan way” they must be held accountable. We agree. ACTION ALERT: Call the White House at 202-456-1111 and tell them that you support holding Ms. Lerner and the IRS accountable for this blatant breach of the public’s trust.
