Faith & Freedom Coalition Will Score Senate Vote on “Motion to Proceed” on House Health Care Bill As Vote “For” or “Against” Repealing Obamacare

Vote Will Appear in Tens of Millions of Congressional Scorecards and Voter Guides to be Distributed in 117,000 Churches Nationwide in 2018

The Faith & Freedom Coalition, a pro-family organization with over 1.5 million members and supporters nationwide, sent a letter from Chairman Ralph Reed to every member of the U.S. Senate today, announcing its intention to score an anticipated vote next week on a “motion to proceed” to consider the House-passed American Health Care Act (AHCA) as a vote “for” or “against” repealing Obamacare. After the recent failure of Senate Republicans to agree on a replacement to Obamacare, Senate Majority Mitch McConnell announced plans to take up the House-passed bill and offer as the first amendment the Obamacare Repeal Reconciliation Act (ORRA), which the Senate passed in 2015.  That legislation was vetoed by then-President Obama.  Faith & Freedom quite reasonably and logically argues that a vote against a motion to proceed on the underlying House legislation is therefore a vote against repealing Obamacare. In the letter to the Senate, Chairman Reed stated, “We recognize that additional legislation will be needed to remove all of Obamacare’s burdensome regulations. However, passing ORRA with its pro-life, pro-family and pro-religious freedom provisions is a critical first step in repealing Obamacare and replacing it with a system that provides better care for Americans in need, relieves the crushing tax burden on American families, and ends taxpayer subsidies for abortion in violation of the conscience rights of people of faith.”
