Faith & Freedom Coalition Commends Governors Across America for Thoughtful, Measured Reopening Plans

DULUTH, Ga. – Faith & Freedom Coalition applauds governors across the country for their cautious, thoughtful plans for the partial reopening of their states, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves, Missouri Governor Mike Parson, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon, Utah Governor Gary Herbert and Idaho Governor Brad Little.

“We commend these governors for their plans to reopen their states,” said Timothy Head, executive director of the Faith & Freedom Coalition. “Keeping at-risk populations safe while allowing low-risk, healthy populations to gradually return to work will ultimately benefit our economy and prevent other health risks related to unemployment. These governors are combining caution and care as they consider the particular needs of their states’ residents.”

With White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett predicting an unemployment rate of 16% or higher in the jobs report that will be released this coming Friday, these governors are doing the right thing by allowing their states to go back to work. Unemployment is linked with many other long-term health risks, including lung cancer, anxiety, depression and suicide. By creating and implementing plans that gradually allow businesses to return to normal operation, governors are prioritizing the long-term health of their states’ residents and protecting them from the novel coronavirus.
