DULUTH, Ga. – The Faith & Freedom Coalition commends the Department of Labor’s recent directive and guidance on religious liberty. Issued by Secretary Eugene Scalia on May 15, the directive instructs department officials to take steps to verify that its policies and actions comply with federal laws protecting religious liberty. The guidance focuses on grant policies, better enabling faith-based organizations and nonprofits to take part in Department of Labor programming while retaining their religious approach.
“Faith-based organizations transform lives across America each and every day,” said Timothy Head, executive director of the Faith & Freedom Coalition. “By issuing this directive, Secretary Scalia has spoken loud and clear: These organizations will not be discriminated against on the basis of their religious convictions. We applaud the secretary for prioritizing the First Amendment rights of Americans, and we commend President Trump for raising the bar on religious liberty protections across the executive branch.”
