On behalf of nearly 3 million members and supporters nationwide, the Faith & Freedom Coalition strongly supports the reopening of the U.S. government:
“While we are glad to see a resolution reached to reopen the U.S. government, the reality is that the American people have suffered tremendously because of the Democratic Party’s intransigence and political gamesmanship,” said Mary Thomas, CEO of the Faith and Freedom Coalition.
Thomas continued: “During this latest – and longest in history – government shutdown, small business loans from the government were on hold, FAA air traffic controllers and military personnel were either furloughed or missed a paycheck, and tremendous economic uncertainty hurt the American people…
…As the latest election results have made clear, the American people want our elected officials to prioritize economic, job, and cost-of-living issues. We urge Congress to quickly get to work and enact policies that will expand opportunity, promote pro-family policies, and create prosperity for all.”
Background:
With the strong support of President Trump, the House of Representatives passed HR 5371 in September, a clean continuing resolution to keep the US Government funded through November 21, 2025, allowing Congress to continue making progress on long-term funding.
Under the leadership of Senator Chuck Schumer, Democrats in the US Senate blocked a vote in favor of a clean continuing resolution 13 times to reopen the federal government.
Air Traffic Controllers and military personnel were deemed essential and had to keep working, but they missed multiple paychecks. There were over 600,000 federal employees furloughed, and over 700,000 federal employees deemed essential had to continue working, but they, too, missed multiple paychecks.
