DULUTH, Ga. – Faith & Freedom Coalition applauds the governors of Iowa, Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Oklahoma for enacting a temporary ban on abortions in order to preserve medical resources to fight COVID-19.
As coronavirus cases surge, states are working to ensure their intensive care units and emergency rooms can handle the influx of patients. Elective procedures, such as abortions, have therefore been categorized as nonessential in these states. However, federal judges have lifted these bans in Texas, Ohio and Alabama — a decision that will have repercussions for other states that have enacted a ban.
Some states, by contrast, have shut down all nonessential medical procedures except abortions, with governors declaring abortions an “essential” service. This includes Governor Ralph Northam of Virginia and Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland.
“We’re grateful to the governors who have banned abortions in their state, saving hundreds of innocent unborn children and helping patients battling the coronavirus,” said Faith & Freedom Coalition Executive Director Timothy Head. “We urge other states to follow suit, allocating resources to the many coronavirus patients in desperate need of care. This is the most pro-life action we can take at this troubling time.”
