Statement from Timothy Head, Executive Director of the Faith & Freedom Coalition on today’s lawsuit by the state of North Carolina in response to the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division interpretation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act and the threat to withhold up to $4.5 billion in federal funds for highways and education if the state implements HB 2 or the so-called “bathroom legislation.”
“This extortion of the people of North Carolina by the Obama administration, alongside the corporate cronyism and bullying of the NBA and PayPal, is an outrageous attack on the rights of all North Carolinians. Contrary to the misinformation campaign orchestrated by the bill’s opponents, HB 2 simply enacted common sense protections of women and children’s privacy, corrected an unprecedented municipal intrusion into private business, and prohibits discrimination of any kind in public accommodations throughout the state. People of faith throughout the country support Governor McCrory and the people of North Carolina in this lawsuit and for standing up for privacy and safety and standing up to the corporate and government bullies who are attempting to usurp the will of the people of North Carolina and enact their far left agenda through coercion and force.”
