FAITH IN ACTION

Statement from Chairman Ralph Reed: President Trump Announces Houses of Worship As Essential Service

Chairman Ralph Reed released the following statement in response to President Trump announcing houses of worship as an essential service:

On behalf of a grateful nation and tens of millions of people of faith, I thank President Donald Trump for his clarion call for churches and other houses of worship to reopen. He is right: America needs more prayer and faith in God, not less.  Unique among all aspects of the nation’s reopening, freedom of religion is enshrined in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It is a human right that should never be infringed or violated, even in a pandemic.

The rhetorical function of the presidency matters. Once again President Trump has the bully pulpit of his office to defend faith and those for whom faith in God gives meaning and purpose to their lives. The Trump Justice Department has also defended the First Amendment by going into court to defend freedom of religion.

The Trump Administration has been the best friend that the faith community has ever had, and Faith & Freedom Coalition and millions of others are grateful for his friendship and leadership.
