FAITH IN ACTION

Statement by Timothy Head, Executive Director of the Faith & Freedom Coalition, on Rise in Anti-Catholic Hate Crimes

DULUTH, Ga., Sept. 7, 2022 — In light of the increasing anti-Catholic hate crimes happening across the country, we join Rep. Lisa McClain and her 19 House colleagues in calling on Attorney General Merrick Garland and the Department of Justice to take action against these appalling attacks and defend the constitutional rights of Catholic Americans. As they so rightly stated in their letter: “The principle of religious freedom is woven into the fabric of what makes America great. No American should live in fear of practicing their religion and no religion should be subject to attack in this land of the free. Religious freedom is not only a Constitutional right but a human right, too.”

To ignore this hostility toward our Catholic brothers and sisters is to ignore the principles this nation was founded on. It is past time for the DOJ to carry out its duty to protect our God-given right to religious liberty.
